K. The dissertation thesis consists of five case studies. These represent various geographic levels of analysis: the level of one single recreation locality, the national level that takes into account large natural recreation sites in the Czech Republic (including protected areas), and a synthesis of results of studies on the European level. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the market and non-market function of suburban forests of the city of Brno. The first step is to follow the net income school approach, for calculation of their values are used the accounting data from the two mentioned companies. Subsequently, market values according Šišak methodology are valued based on the volume of sales coming through the market. The accounting data of the enterprise Lesy města Brna a. s. and the company Školní lesní podnik Masarykův les Křtiny were also used to evaluate market values of forest. The nonmarket functions of the forest in this thesis were evaluated mainly hygienic functions, namely recreational. Potential valuation methods and travel expenses methods were used for their valuation. The basis of the evaluation was the implementation of a questionnaire survey in the chosen Kohoutovický les (suburban forest of the city of Brno). It was found that more than 60% of visitors would not be willing to pay for entry into the forest to be surveyed. The average value of willingness to pay for a hypothetical entry fee was set at 24.33 CZK. These values are comparable to other surveys conducted within the Czech Republic. The average travel cost to the monitored place was CZK 13 with an average offset distance of CZK 5.53. The actual costs of companies directly related to forest recreation were also quantified. The need to compensate forest owners for increased costs due to the law of free forest entry and the possibility of collecting fruits for their own consumption was highlighted.
